Parkinson’s Disease Management
Overview: Parkinson’s disease affects movement and balance. Our physiotherapy treatments focus on exercises that improve strength, flexibility, and balance.
Treatments
- Aerobic and Resistance Exercise: Incorporating aerobic exercises such as walking, cycling, and swimming, along with resistance training, improves cardiovascular health, muscle strength, and overall physical fitness, leading to better motor function and balance (BMJ).
- Balance and Gait Training: Balance exercises and gait training to reduce the risk of falls and improve walking stability. Techniques include using balance boards, practicing tandem walking, and using visual and auditory cues to enhance movement (BioMed Central).
- Amplitude Training: A therapy focused on increasing the amplitude of movements, helping patients perform larger and more purposeful movements, which can improve motor control and reduce bradykinesia (Cambridge).
